Learn about the interesting people buried in Albany Rural Cemetery

To the Editor:

The Clarksville Historical Society is hosting Mark Bodnar on Sept. 4 to tell us about some of the famous people in our local history who are buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery.  But I bet you haven’t heard about some of these interesting folks.

He is the president of the Albany Rural Cemetery Association Board of Trustees.

Albany and the surrounding region was densely populated and commercialized, becoming a prominent hub of architecture, education, and commerce. As a result, many famous and influential people are buried in the sacred soil of Albany Rural Cemetery.

Among the 150,000 or so souls who are now permanent residents of the cemetery, including members of the Schuyler, VanRensselaer and Corning families, there are many who made a name for themselves in a variety of ways, such as inventors, athletes, industrialists and military servicemen.

Mark has documented a variety of individuals who have achieved national prominence as well as many who have made important contributions to society in their own right.

His presentation will enlighten you with some of the interesting stories of people buried in Albany Rural, and some lesser known, left-of-center stories that will both educate and entertain you.

His presentation at the Clarksville Community Church at 1997 Delaware Turnpike will start at 7 p.m.
