Save money by going solar

To the Editor:

This is a good time to switch to solar power. No matter what your circumstances are, you can save money by going solar.

State and federal incentives are still available to make solar electric installations affordable. The most cost-effective option is to install panels on your roof or in your yard.

But, if you have a slate roof, or if you have shade trees, or if you rent an apartment or mobile home or have other reasons why you can’t get panels, you can subscribe to a remote solar farm. There are many alternatives that will save you money, and solar power is a good way to protect yourself from ever-increasing electricity rates in the long term.

Solarize Albany is a not-for-profit volunteer group that promotes renewable energy and offers information from carefully vetted solar installers. If you live in the Capital Region, Solarize Albany can get estimates, help you choose the alternative that would be best for you, and help you get the incentives for the lowest cost.
