ALBANY COUNTY SOLDIER KILLED ON BATTLEFIELD

James E. Flagler of Voorheesville has received a letter from a commanding officer of the 55th Company, U. S. Marine Corps, confirming the report that his son, Clifton Flagler, had been killed in action. Private Flagler enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 27, 1917, and was a member of the 55th Company.

The letter follows: Mr. James E. Flagler, Voorheesville, N. Y., R. F. D. 2.

Dear Sir:

You have probably been notified officially of the death on the field of battle, of your son, but I wish personally and on the behalf of the 55th Company to offer you our deepest sympathy for this loss, which we also feel so very deeply. Your son gave his life to further the first great victory of American arms in the world’s war. He gave it in a glorious manner, advancing against the enemy beside his comrades, and died seeing the cause for which he fought victorious.

Again offering you our deepest condolence, I remain,

Most sincerely,

L. Q. C. O. Leyle,

2nd Lieut., U. S. M. C.,

For the 55th Company, U. S. M. C.

ONESQUETHAW.

Jacob Van Atten picked two quarts of ripe strawberries from his plants recently. Who can beat that for this time of season?

VOORHEESVILLE.

The state troopers found Aury Vincent of South Berne near this place last Saturday morning, operating a motorcycle without a  license plate. They took him to George Taylor, justice of the peace, who issued the warrant for his arrest. He was found guilty of not having a license, and also of operating his cycle on the night of Aug. 9 and morning of Aug. 10 without lights. He was fined $15 which he paid. He promisted to get a license and lights.

SLINGERLANDS.

The sidewalks on Union avenue and Orchard street have been put in first class condition the past week, the town having furnished the crushed stone for this needed improvement, and the men on these streets doing the work.

AQUETUCK.

The harvest is finished in this vicinity. The oat crop was fine, but the extreme dry weather here is doing injury to fall crops. Corn will be a light crop. Clarence Van Hoesen has the best field of corn in this vicinity.
