Sarcoma Strong 5K Run/Walk to be held August 19

The Sarcoma Strong 5K Run/Walk to benefit sarcoma research will take place Saturday, Aug. 19, at 9 a.m. at the University of Albany.

This year’s event will honor Hannah Morier, an Albany Med patient who was diagnosed with soft-tissue sarcoma during her first year of college. Morier was treated by Albany Med orthopedic oncologist, Matthew DiCaprio, M.D., and now she is disease-free and healthy three years after treatment.

Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that develops from certain tissues, like bone or muscle. According to the American Cancer Society, about 12,390 new soft-tissue sarcomas will be diagnosed this year.

The Sarcoma Strong 5K Run/Walk will take place on the University of Albany’s certified 5K course. All funds raised will be directed towards a research grant for sarcoma.
