Raymond H. Keys

GUILDERLAND — Raymond H. Keys, a fireman and devoted husband, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home. He was 88.

Mr. Keys was born in Hebron, the son of the late George and Emma Weaver Keys.

As a young man, he worked on local farms. Later, he worked for several years with the New York State Thruway Authority, before taking a position with the State University at Albany as a groundskeeper.

He retired in 1985 and worked part-time for several years at The Gade Farm in Guilderland.

Mr. Keys was a charter member of the West Hebron Volunteer Fire Department.

“He loved to plow snow and was always looking forward to the first snowfall,” wrote his family in a tribute.

Mr. Keys is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Edith Knaggs Keys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, his brother, Ralph Keys, died before him.

A funeral service was held at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Guilderland.
