Political campaigns need to be respectful and civil

To the Editor:

I am writing regarding the recent letters to your paper from Eric Kuck, co-chair of the Knox Democratic Committee, and Ed Nicholson, assistant Knox assessor.

I have been a registered Democrat in the town of Knox for over 30 years. In this year’s town election as in past town elections, I want my party’s candidates to campaign on issues that are important to our town’s residents such as broadband expansion and creating more options in the town for economic opportunity.

Unfortunately, Mr. Kuck and Mr. Nicholson’s letters consist of fanciful allegations regarding packing the Democratic caucus with coerced voters and a particularly vicious comment labeling the current town supervisor as a “...big city loan- shark….”

This sort of spiteful rhetoric is divisive and corrosive to civility. I expect much better from my party.
