I’m proud to run for town board. My resigning as super was best for Rensselaerville

To the Editor:

I am proud to announce that at the Aug. 1 Democratic caucus, I was one of two people selected to be a candidate for Rensselaerville Town Board in the November 2017 election. I am indeed grateful for and honored by the support and confidence that Rensselaerville Democrats have placed in me.

In an attempt to be pro-active and knowing that my opposition will probably make an issue of this, I wish to make a few comments about my 2012 resignation from the supervisor position.

The decision to resign was not made lightly but with great consideration of what was best at that time primarily for the town of Rensselaerville and incidentally for me personally. I am not ashamed of my resignation and am more than willing to answer any questions you may have regarding this matter.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a strong advocate for open and transparent government. With that being said, I fully intend to continue with the publication of the R’ville Community Newsletter, which has enabled me to serve residents in the town of Rensselaerville in a different capacity. I have worked diligently to provide a comprehensive, informative publication to all subscribers.

But rest assured that I will not use this publication for politicking beyond what we’ve normally published in the past.

Since the inception of the newsletter 42 months ago, I have attended more town board meetings and public hearings than most, if not all, of the present town board members. I will continue to be present at these meetings, whether as an audience member of a member of the town board.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding my candidacy.

In closing, I’d like to present you with our slate of candidates:

— Town supervisor: Steve Pfleging;

— Town clerk: Victoria Kraker;

— Assessors: Hebert Joseph and Michael Weber; and

— Town board members: Robert Tanner and Marie Dermody.

I am looking forward to earning your support.

Marie Dermody

Rensselaerville
