Tax dollars well spent on rail trail

At 94, Marguerite Cackley enjoys a ride on the rail trail, pausing at a stream overlook on a hot summer day.

To the Editor:

I have just returned from an outing on the Albany County Rail Trail, beginning in Voorheesville. I am 94 so I don't get out a whole lot, but it was a joy!

My daughter, Fran, pushed me in a transport chair, borrowed from the New Scotland Senior Center, and it was just perfect. A nice hot day, but there is a lot of shade along the trail. We went from the beginning, as far as the old Dutch barn on Hilton Road, and back — maybe 2 miles.

The railroad must have provided a significant right-of-way well over a hundred years ago. What a good use for this no-longer used path to the Capital of New York! These tax dollars were well spent!
