To the Editor:

I’d like to thank the people who came to our first Knox “Dog Day” in the Knox town park on July 22.  Theresa Tommell, DVM vaccinated 20 dogs, without charge to the owners, as well as giving a talk on first aid for dogs.

Nineteen dogs got their town licenses from Tara Murphy, town clerk, who was there for the event.

All Knox dog license tag numbers were entered into a drawing. The winners were Mary and Dana Sherman and their rescue Rottie, Tucker. They won a huge bag containing treats for both people and dogs donated by Trader Joe’s.

Other donors included Altamont Agway, The Altamont Enterprise, The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, Enterprise Printing and Photo, Fox Creek Farm CSA, Gordon’s Grassfed Beef, Guilderland Tractor Supply, Noch Fiernan Perennials, Philips Hardware, and The Village Vet.

Benson’s Pet Supply and the Guilderland Animal Hospital each donated baskets of treats and toys that were raffled off, and other items were given as prizes for contests.

Well over $400 worth of prizes were donated, and the raffle raised money toward a chip reader for the Knox Animal Control Officer, Lou Saddlemire, who was there helping and judging contests, along with Amy Pokorny, town board member.

Pat Colitsa introduced a beautiful rescue greyhound, Sarah Koller gave a talk on therapy dogs and brought along a great example, and Pat Huff helped everywhere she was needed.

Thank you to all our donors and participants, and congratulations to the winners!
