“‘Blue Ruin’ transports the viewer to a magical landscape inhabited by tiny deer,” says Art on the Rail Trail.

DELMAR — All things to do with bicycling — with a bit of art and scavenging thrown in — will be celebrated in Bethlehem on July 26.

The chamber of commerce is hosting the free event, from 5 to 8 p.m., at various venues around town.

Artist Ruby Palmer will be on hand, from 6 to 7 p.m., to talk about her artwork, “Blue Ruin,” along the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail at the corner of Adams Street and Hudson Avenue at the miniMoCA518.

Art on the Rail Trail — ART — writes on its Facebook page, “‘Blue Ruin’ transports the viewer to a magical landscape inhabited by tiny deer, who peer at one another around the corners of a vividly painted architectural folly. Ruby Palmer is a Hudson Valley-based artist who reimagines the memory of a dream-like place or structure, and the scale of our longing for such places.”

“I wanted to explore ideas in three dimensions without taking up a lot of room, and so beginning with materials found in my studio, I started making models and placing them in a white-washed dollhouse that was built for my daughters,” Palmer says in the post. “This allows me to see which work I might want to pursue on a large scale.”

“MiniMoCA518 is a unique public art gallery, as well as an incubator for artists to experiment with their work,” says the ART post.

Throughout the event, kids in the Flow Riders will demonstrate their mountain biking skills at the Blanchard-Currey American Legion Post 1040 at 16 West Poplar Drive.

An E-Bike demonstration will be given by CDPHP, and new and vintage bikes will be displayed by Mad Dog Bicycles.

“We are excited to help educate our participants and promote the new E-bike availability made possible by CDTA-CDPHP Cycle! Program,” said Chamber President Terri Egan in a release about the event.

Officials will be set up for demos of the E-bikes in the former PRA Building parking lot, accessible from Hallwood Road. They will help with downloading the user app and answer questions about the program.

Mad Dog Bikes will also be located in this area with a display of new bikes, and, weather permitting, a collection of vintage bikes.

“It’s fascinating to see how cycling has evolved over the years,” said Matt Devlin, owner of Mad Dog Bikes, in the release.

A Youth Bike Decorating Contest will be held at the American Legion post with judging at 6 p.m. There are three age categories, 5 to 7, 8 to10, and 11 to 13; the application form together with criteria for judging may be found at and downloaded from the chamber’s event site at https://bit.ly/3HUcmpN.

Savile Road will do helmet checks for youth and adults at the American Legion post. A skills course will also be set up at the post so participants can practice and learn about bike safety.

A scavenger hunt will be held along the Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail between Adams Street and the Blanchard-Currey American Legion.

The scavenger hunt is being held in collaboration with the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy Art on the Rail Trail committee. Participants may pick up a Scavenger Hunt Passport at the chamber offices or Medrite Urgent Care this week, if they want to get a jump start on the hunt. Complete information about the BBB Scavenger Hunt can be found on the chamber’s website at https://bit.ly/44ogqHD.

Romo’s Pizza, and Uncle Spuds will have food trucks at the legion post; at the Real McCoy, Suburban Kitchen will be fixing up some tastes; and next door The Cookie House will be baking cookies and offering ice cream-cookie sandwiches.

The Jeff Spencer Band and Mike Miner will provide live music.

Event sponsors include Gabler Realty, School’s Out Inc., McSharry & Associates Realty, LiveWell Group, Community Bank, Andrew’s Burger Shed, MedRite Urgent Care, Empowered Midwifery Care, Hartmann Financial Group, and Wildbird Junction.
