CLARKSVILLE.
Over $9.00 was realized from the sale of ice cream at the Methodist church last Saturday evening. The social and entertainment were a success.
WEST BERNE.
Several from this place had the pleasure of attending the movies at Schoharie last Thursday evening.
NEW SCOTLAND.
The Busy Bees will give a Victrola tea on A. H. Blessing’s lawn on Saturday, July 28, from 3 to 7 o’clock, for the benefit of the Red Cross. Ice cream, cake, lemonade and fancy articles will be on sale. All neighboring branches of the Red Cross are invited. Everyone come and do your “bit.”
VOORHEESVILLE.
Miss Carrie Martin will give her Sunday school class a picnic in Joslin’s grove Saturday afternoon.
GUILDERLAND CENTER.
The good news has reached our village that Dr. Frank H. Hurst has reached France in safety and that he has been promoted to the rank of captain. We all rejoice to hear of his safe journey over the sea, now so perilous.
VILLAGE NOTES.
The privilege of selling refreshments at the head of the Indian Ladder road, in John Boyd Thacher park, has been awarded to William Smith of Altamont, the highest bidder. Mr. Smith’s bid was $125. Mr. Smith was formerly employed as farmer by Edward Cassidy on his farm above Altamont.
LOCAL BREVITIES.
Recruiting boomed at the Albany army station Monday when up until noon thirteen men were enlisted, of whom one was from Slingerlands, Charles W. Pier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pier. He will be a member of the medical department. Mr. Pier, who has been in the employ of the Brandow Printing company in Albany the past ten years, was presented with a handsome wrist watch by his fellow workmen and members of the company last Saturday afternoon.
