Library concerts mix musical genres

To the Editor:

Summer has surely arrived and once again the Altamont Free Library is presenting a series of six Tuesday evening concerts in the park, which began on July 5 and will continue through Aug. 9.   On July 26, we will have a special birthday treat for the library’s 100th year.

Lori McCutcheon, our concert coordinator, has put together a lineup with a mix of musical genres sure to delight.  On July 19, Jon Ouckama, a syncopated singer and songwriter will strum and drum to upbeat originals and known covers.

July 26 will bring Marty Wendell and His Tour Band with a spirited rock/rockabilly show and a special “Happy Birthday” for our beloved library’s 100th birthday.   For those who like the “British Invasion” and Classic Rock, the well-known Scotty Mac’s Rock Show will appear on Aug. 2, featuring Blues Hall of Fame guitarist Scotty Mac with a show that will appeal to all ages.

Back by popular demand from last year, our final concert on Aug. 9 will feature The Tommy Verrigni Trio. This incredibly versatile group performs standards, smooth jazz, pop, rock and rhythm and blues

All performances will start at 7 p.m. but do come early and pick up some dinner or snacks at our local eateries or pack a picnic from home.  At each concert there will also be the opportunity to purchase tickets for our beautiful 100th-anniversary quilt created by our own Train Station Quilters.

If the weather does not cooperate, performances will be held at Bozenkill Park, which has plenty of undercover space for all to come and enjoy.

Our concert series is made possible through the generosity of the village of Altamont, our quilt fundraiser, and pass-the-hat donations from those who attend.  We look forward to seeing everyone each week.
