DEMOCRATS NAME JAMES M. COX FOR PRESIDENT

Franklin D. Roosevelt, of Hyde Park, Dutchess county, assistant secretary of the navy, was nominated for the vice presidency as running mate to Governor Cox in the Democratic convention Tuesday afternoon. The selection was made after seven other men whose names were placed in nomination had withdrawn in Mr. Roosevelt’s favor.

WEST BERNE.

A party of Fourth of July campers from Schenectady pitched their tents on the outskirts of the old camp meeting grove, owned by W. J. Haverly. The party consisted of 42 persons. Although the weather was cold they seemed to be happy and enjoyed the time, making themselves agreeable to all around in every way. We hope they will come again.

EAST BERNE—SUNNYSIDE.

Mrs. Arthur Talor opened her boarding house on Saturday with a very promising season.

VILLAGE NOTES.

The boys who had charge of the improvements to the tennis court on Lincoln avenue report that the court is now ready for use. The business men and many of the tennis fans of the village “shelled out” very liberally to help the cause along. Nearly $30 has been collected. Many thanks are due those who gave so generously.

NEW SCOTLAND.

Our village school is without a teacher. Anyone who desires the position, apply to the trustee, Abram H. Blessing.

CALLANANS CORNERS.

During the electrical storm of Tuesday a horse owned by Frank Wisenburn was struck by lightning and instantly killed. The horse was in the barn. One side of the barn was a little shattered, but no other damage was done.

CLARKSVILLE.

On account of the scarcity of berry baskets M. F. Barber has secured a car load and is now prepared to supply the public with baskets.

VOORHEESVILLE.

Those who are employed at the pumping station here found ice and snow under the coal pile, where coal was deposited for use at the pumping station. William Vosburgh, one of the men employed there, took a quantity of the ice and snow home and used it to freeze ice cream for the Fourth of July.
