Martin joins Family Medicine Berne
BERNE — Jill Martin, a nurse practitioner and Knox native, has joined Dr. Kristin Mack at Capital Care Medical Group, Family Medicine Berne.
A nurse practitioner for over nine years, Martin graduated with a master’s degree in science from the State University of New York Institute of Technology and was recognized with the Outstanding Graduate Nurse Practitioner Student Award in 2007.
In addition to her extensive experience managing both acute and chronic health conditions, she is also experienced in women’s health and prenatal care. Prior to working as nurse practitioner, Martin worked as a registered nurse at Seton Hospital for over 10 years, specializing in Pediatrics.
“I went into the nursing profession as I truly believe that we are put on this Earth to help others,” said Martin in a release from her office. “As best said by Lewis Carroll, ‘One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others’.”
Since joining Family Medicine Berne in September 2014, Mack has increased the practice, focusing on providing good quality preventative care and extending the services offered for women’s health. She is a 2011 graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and trained at Ellis Medicine in Schenectady for her residency.
Building upon the work of her predecessor, Gary Kolanchick, Mack strives to make the people the Hilltowns healthy, the release said, quoting her: “In my medical training, I was taught that finding health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease. I feel fortunate to help the community strive toward wellness in their daily lives.”
The practice sponsors the Fox Creek 5K Race, which will occur again Aug. 6. And, in 2015, Family Medicine Berne developed Roots of Reading, a program that provides an age-appropriate book for every child’s annual check-up, made possible by its partnership with The Friends of Berne Library and community donations of books.
