Corporate ‘bean counters’ took over medical care in Berne

To the Editor:

It is unbelievable to me that the Helderberg Hilltowns cannot support a local physician. If it were somewhere deep in Appalachia or a remote section of the Adirondacks, I might get it. The hamlet of Berne is only 25 miles from the New York State capital!

To me, we in the Hilltowns were absolutely thrilled with the care provided for decades by Dr. Smith, Dr. Kolanchick, and later by Mr. Mack.

What went wrong?

What did CapitalCare not know about the practice when they bought it?

What changed?

Probably nothing.

As with previous letters to The Enterprise, I believe that the corporate “bean counters” took over.

So much for quality patient care...Shameful.

I doubt that Hippocrates when writing his famous “physician’s oath” foresaw the concept of “Do no harm” as meaning the corporate bottom line.

Perhaps CapitalCare should change its logo to what it apparently really values: CapitaCa$h.
