Tour Knox to learn its history
To the Editor:
The Knox Historical Society is ready for the summer season!
The Saddlemire Homestead at 2192 Berne-Altamont Road (Route 156) in the Knox hamlet will be open during the Knox Pucker Street Fair on Saturday, June 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. Stop by and browse the collection and then pick up one of our driving tour guides.
The “Voices of the Past” driving tour leads you through the town with information on buildings and cemeteries, presented in the voices of Knox citizens of the past. The New World Dutch Barns Driving tour guides you to the locations of the Dutch barns in the town. A booklet locating the New York State Historic Markers in the town of Knox is also available (donation suggested) at the Homestead.
On Sunday, July 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., Reverend Jay Francis will present a program about the five generations of his family who have lived in Knox. Refreshments will be served.
On Saturdays in the months of July and August, the Homestead will be open from noon to 2 p.m. Please drop in and discover more of the history of the town of Knox.
Check our website for more information about these activities and others the society is planning for this year at http://www.knoxhistoricalsociety.org/.
