Tastee Treat closes a month after opening
NEW SCOTLAND — Approximately four weeks after reopening the Tastee Treat Ice Cream shop, which had been shuttered by the pandemic for two years, new owner Jeff Clark has once again shut down the Slingerlands shop.
“We’re not in business right now,” Clark told The Enterprise on Wednesday. “Let me just say that for now.” As for if or when the shop will reopen, Clark said, he really didn’t know about his next steps. “It’s too early, to be honest with you.”
Clark said he had to close because his partner, who ran the day-to-day operation, decided to leave. “It’s just, it’s unfortunate … and it was rather abrupt,” he said. “And it left me in a tough spot.”
Asked if the shop was closed permanently, Clark said, “We might be. We very well might be.”
Clark said he’s still weighing his options when asked about the shop being for sale. “We’ve got to figure some stuff out and see how we’re going to move forward,” he said. “That’s where we are right now.”
Clark, a Voorheesville native, paid $220,000 for the 0.75-acre property at 2070 New Scotland Road in September of last year.
Clark said for the limited time he was open the community response was “phenomenal,” and that he had been fortunate enough to meet so many new wonderful people, not to mention catching up with others who he’d known for years, but hadn’t seen in a long time.
Even though the shop was open for only about a month, Clark said, “It was a wonderful experience because of the people in the community.”
