Truths that chafe against long-standing cultural norms
To the Editor:
Your editorial in the June 1 issue of The Enterprise literally brought tears to my eyes [“Stop the stigma girls suffer for wearing sports bras”]. It is something about simple truths, being called out in a measured and unassailable way, that gets me.
When I say “simple” truths, the irony is that they often don’t seem simple in the moment in which they are being discussed. There is tension because those truths chafe against long-standing cultural and societal norms, but they are truths nonetheless. And the sooner the conflict between those truths and the norms is addressed, the better.
Thank you for that thoughtful editorial, so many in the past, and for your stewardship of the Enterprise — our lifeline of quality local journalism.
