What an event! What wonderful people!

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Memorial Day Parade committee, I would like to convey our thanks to the Altamont Community for enthusiastically supporting our grassroots effort to reinstate the traditional parade in Altamont.

It seems impossible to thank all parade participants, but I would like to publicly applaud their efforts of  being an integral part of our hometown parade — well done! After a harrowing year with COVID restrictions, it was heartwarming to see families out waving and kids with smiles from ear to ear, celebrating a taste of this community we all love!

We are particularly thankful for Grand Marshall Jean Hungerford Krull and for the service of our deceased World War II honorees, Newt Ronan, and Porter Bidleman.

With all the celebratory feel, we never lost sight  of the purpose of the parade — remembering with pride all of our military who gave their lives for this freedom we all now enjoy.

We would be remiss if we failed to thank Stephanie and Ryan Brewer for their beautiful rendition of the national anthem, Christy Center for developing our online ads, CM Fox for sponsoring our pipe band, and Amy Anderson for offering the fairgrounds for us to form and to return to.

What an event!  What wonderful people! And to think, we get to do it again in 2022!
