Lamont Matthew Hungershafer Jr.

GUILDERLAND — Lamont Matthew Hungershafer Jr., a Korean War veteran and a world traveler, worked in the pharmaceutical business.

He “entered heaven peacefully” on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, his family wrote in a tribute. He was 87.

Mr. Hungershafer was born on Aug. 4, 1928 to the late Lamont and Dorothy (née Ague) Hungershafer in Albany. He graduated from Nott Terrace High school.

“He met and married the love of his life, Lois Lourdes Elliott, and together they shared a wonderful life.,” his family wrote.

Mr. Hungershafer was a world traveler, traveling to Ireland several times, throughout Europe, and all over the United States. He skied the Alps and all of the mountains out West. He also went on several cruises to Bermuda and he was an avid golfer.

He served his country in the Korean War and was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He spent most of his military career on a military aircraft carrier. He then had a long career in the pharmaceutical business.

He is survived by his children Bruce Hungershafer and his wife, Patricia, of Delmar, Mark Hungershafer and his wife, Susan, of Guilderland, and Jill Cunningham of Saratoga Springs.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Hungershafer and his wife, Marisa, of Clifton Park, Eric Hungershafer and his wife, Amy, of Latham, Kaitlin Hungershafer of Delmar, Brittany Cunningham and Colleen Cunningham of Saratoga Springs, and Michaila Parker of Guilderland; his great-grandchildren, Ellie Rose, Jack Robert, and Quinn Ryan; his brother, Donnie Hungershafer; his niece Susie Roerig of Ballston Spa; his nephew John Hungershafer of Voorheesville; and his grandnieces, Gina Hungershafer and Emily Roerig.

His wife, Lois Hungershafer, died before him.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Sunday, June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main St. inAltamont. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home with interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
