Remembering veterans on Memorial Day

To the Editor:

This past long Memorial Day weekend, I was visiting local veterans’ gravesites and the many flags placed by volunteers for service veterans.

I stopped and paid my respects to veteran George Van Etten and his wife, Janice, and took this picture at the Knox cemetery.

Their daughter Sue told me last August at Janice’s graveside memorial that her parents wanted to be high on the hill in the Knox cemetery on the far eastern side of the cemetery so they were always overlooking their Van Etten farm.

Rest in peace and thank you for your service.
