Waiting for Encore! Books to open

To the Editor:
Each day on my walk, I pass our lovely, newly renovated Voorheesville Public Library.

In April, I always start looking for the familiar signs posted around the library announcing the reopening of its seasonal outdoor book sale venue called Encore! Books. It’s a very special place — clean, extremely well organized, and run by friendly volunteers.

When I saw the signs a few weeks ago, I immediately asked my husband to lug my accumulation of winter reads (two cartons and one shopping bag) out of the cellar in anticipation of donating them to Encore and replacing them with a new crop to keep me occupied for the coming year.

Well, May 7 (the opening day advertised) came and went, and then I saw new signs proclaiming “Encore Books — Coming Soon!” The same signs have been posted at the library for over three weeks now, and there has been no word about when Encore will open for business.

Apparently the word soon has a meaning I’m not familiar with.

Voorheesville’s library and its programs, including Encore! Books, are local treasures, adding to our community’s character and offering an inviting  place to buy used books in great condition at a very low price.

As an avid reader, life-long learner, and Friend of the Library, I anxiously await the reopening of Encore.  I only hope it will happen soon.
