Veteran is grateful for new flag-receptacle box in Westerlo

To the Editor:

I want to thank you for covering the new flag-receptacle box at the Westerlo transfer station on Annable Road in Westerlo so everyone in town is aware it is there for their convenience!

For many years, it was very disturbing to me to see American flags discarded disrespectfully.

As a Vietnam vet, who also has relatives from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Iraq War and during peace time as well, I, for one, was very disappointed when many times I saw and retrieved flags in the trash.

I am sure there were others that were buried deep in trash never to see the light of day.

This gift from the Albany County Veterans Service Bureau is a wonderful idea to stop that from happening in the future as apparently many people did not know where to take them or were just too lazy to find out and take them to another town.

Many thanks also to veteran Scott Leslie of the Albany County Veterans Service Bureau for taking the time to attend the presentation of the box to Westerlo.
