MELROSE — Thomas Perras, who had a career at Knolls Atomic Power Lab, enjoyed outdoor activities and rooted for the Mets.
He died suddenly on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at his River Road home in Melrose, Rensselaer County. He was 67. Death was attributed to natural causes.
Born in Albany, he was son of the late Armand E. and Jean Wisenberger Perras. He was a 1975 graduate of Voorheesville’s high school and earned an associate degree from Hudson Valley Community College.
“Tom was employed for over 30 years at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna and retired in 2015,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He was a member of the Maplewood Conservation Club.
“He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all other outdoor activities. He also was an avid New York Mets fan.”

Thomas Perras is survived by his devoted children, Nadine M. Perras and Zachary Perras (Rebecca Rush) of Melrose, and Noah Perras (Jadalea) of Bennington, Vermont.
He was the brother of Barbara Ewart (Howard) of Amherst, Massachusetts; Armand Perras of Felton, Delaware; Richard J. Perras (Michele) of Altamont; Christopher Perras (Kathy) of Amsterdam; and Jeannine Matuzek of Slingerlands.
He was the proud grandfather of Wyatt Perras, Caleb Maloney, and Brynnleigh Mae Perras. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
His wife, Margaret Walsh Perras, died on Sept. 12, 2024.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
