NEW SCOTLAND — Conservative party endorsements in town have not fallen along party lines this year.

The party, which has 174 members in New Scotland according to the Albany County Board of Elections, is endorsing Tom Dolin, the incumbent Democrat, for supervisor and Doug LaGrange, an incumbent Republican, and Charles Voss, a Republican who serves on the planning board, for the two town board seats up for election this November.

“At this point, I’m debating that issue,” Voss said when asked if was planning to run for election this year.  He made a run in the last election and lost to a slate of Democratic incumbents.

“Doug and I are certainly mulling it over,” he said.  Earlier this month, both LaGrange, a farmer, and Dolin, a retired lawyer, said that they hadn’t yet committed to running.

Voss, a professional planner, said when he ran two years ago that it’s important for people to use their expertise to better the community.  “The town is relatively simplistic in its types of land-use codes and protections we have,” he said in a 2007 election interview, and advocated working on planning in New Scotland.

“The land-use issue in New Scotland is foremost in everyone’s mind in this election,” he said yesterday, meaning that the issues he campaigned on two years ago are now dominant at many town meetings after a Cazenovia-based developer made public plans to develop the old Bender melon farm, in the town’s commercial district at the corner of routes 85 and 85A, with a Target-anchored shopping center.
