VOORHEESVILLE — Sandra Nietsche Flansburg, who had a career with the state police and was best friends with her husband, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at St. Peter's Hospital Hospice. She was 88.

Born in Hudson, New York, to the late Eugene Nietsche and Helen Cripps Nietsche of Warrensburg, she was a graduate of Warrensburg Central School and Albany Business College.

“Sandy was employed by the New York State Police for over 30 years and was an avid bowler,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She and her husband, Bill, and their family enjoyed many summers in the North Country on Black Lake and the St. Lawrence River.

“Later they enjoyed winters in Estero Florida for over 10 years and made many friends. Sandy and Bill loved traveling and going to casinos, including Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Turning Stone, Foxwoods, and Saratoga. Even after Bill passed, she would still drive herself to Saratoga and Rivers casinos where she usually had a winning strategy on the slot machines.

“She also loved gathering with family and friends for holidays (she was a regular at the Memorial Day Parade in Voorheesville) and picnics, playing games on her computer (nightly with her sister, Karen), and going out to eat — especially Italian food!

Sandra Nietsche Flansburg was the wife of her late devoted husband and best friend, William “Bill” L. Flansburg, and the loving mother of William Flansburg of Rensselaerville and Anne Flansburg Sager (Mike Hall) of Bethlehem.

She is also survived by her brother, Eugene (Suzanne) Nietsche of Livonia, New York, and her sister, Karen (whose husband, Perry is deceased) Finkle of Loudon, Tennessee as well as several nieces and nephews.

“As Sandy was a breast cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” her family wrote.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 27, at the Reilly and Son Funeral Home at 9 Voorheesville Ave. in Voorheesville. She and her husband will be buried together at the Saratoga National Cemetery the following day.
