Joy fills your heart when you help others

John Herholz is proud to have donated six gallons of blood.

To the Editor:

I would like to reach out to any and all! I would like to share that I have given 48 blood donations equaling six gallons of blood.

As we are all aware, there is a critical shortage and need for blood, not only recently due to this COVID epidemic but with all of the crises upon us. There are many types of blood donations one may give. This information is available to you by any wonderful staff members at your local American Red Cross Center or at any local blood drive.

I would also like to inform anyone who has ever contemplated or ever had an interest in becoming a firefighter; it is a wonderful and rewarding experience. Even though I have been in the East Berne Volunteer Fire Company for only one year and eight months I can tell you of the joy that fills your heart, knowing you are doing whatever possible to assist in any way to help in your community is beyond words.

And to have an understanding that everyone in a department is now your extended family, and will always be there for you. They will never turn their backs on you or leave you behind.

There is a great need for volunteer firefighters so, if you have what it takes — the desire and the time — then please join your local fire department.
