A great time for us as Americans to honor our history
To the Editor:
Fly your flags for our fallen.
May 18 is this year’s Altamont Memorial Day Parade — and our parade Committee hopes you will attend with your family and friends to honor our fallen servicemen.
As we begin the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, it is a great time for us as Americans to honor our history and embrace our many ancestors who gave their all.
The parade will step off from the fairgrounds at 2 p.m. and follow our traditional route: Grand to Main over Lincoln to Western and down Maple to Orsini Park. We are hoping those who have them will display their flags for this special day.
There will be the wreath-laying ceremony in Orsini Park followed by a short presentation by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. This will be followed by a community day offering hot dogs (thanks, Altamont Fire Department!) and ice cream (thanks, Stewarts!) and music in the gazebo. So all in all, a wonderful day.
Now — let’s hope the sun is out!
See you there.
