Hotel deserves tax break

To the Editor:

I write in regard to the proposed five-story hotel that Crossgates Mall wants to build on Western Avenue by the mall. In doing this, it would demolish Ted’s Fish Fry and an abandoned brick house on Western Avenue.

As a citizen of Guilderland, I fully support this plan to build this hotel. It would create many jobs for the area and bring people into our town. Although there are a fews obstacles to get over in completing this project, I believe this will be a very good investment for our town to make in the long run.

This new hotel would impact the community in a positive way economically, creating more than 50 jobs for the area and bringing in people to spend their money here in Guilderland. As well as employing more people in the area in the process of building the hotel itself, it would give more work to construction companies and pavement companies.

Since this project would affect our community in a very positive way fiscally, I believe it should get the tax exemption it applied for. This hotel would serve the community and bring in a lot of money for years to come so it deserves this tax exemption for the time being.

An issue facing this large project would be the traffic generated on Western Avenue due to this new hotel although the builders are planning on moving Lehner Road to meet up with the traffic light near the hotel to accommodate for this increased traffic flow. I believe this is a valid solution for the traffic problem that would arise if this hotel were to be constructed.
