Restaurant workers are essential, too
To the Editor:
I am writing you this email after looking through The Altamont Enterprise edition from Thursday, April 30. What caught my eye was the warm thank-you on the last page of your paper, sending your gratitude to all the “essential” people out there.
I thought it was a nice tribute to all those people who are out there on a day-to-day basis, exposing themselves, to provide a means of service to “us.” I just wanted to make you aware that out of all of those people you listed, you forgot a group of essentials.
These are the restaurant and food-service essentials who continue to feed “us” and provide a sense of normalcy. My husband is one of those people who do not get much recognition through all this, but is out there for countless hours a week, exposing himself to help keep the restaurant he works for going and providing amazing meals for customers.
He and all other restaurant employees should also be on that essential list! I don't think it is only you who forget them, but it goes all the way up to the governor who week after week lists all the essentials that he wants to thank, but forgets the essentials feeding everyone.
They are important, too, and deserve the recognition, thanks, and support as well.
Sincerely, a wife of a hard working essential,
Christine Abbruzzese

I revised my original letter and am comfortable with you posting this. Thank you.

My husband is one of those people who does not get much recognition through all this but he and restaurant workers like him are out there 60 to 70 hours a week exposing themselves to help keep the restaurants they work for afloat and provide amazing meals for their customers.
He and all other restaurant employees should also be on that essential list! I don't think it is only you who forget them, but it goes all the way up to the governor who week after week lists all the essentials that he wants to thank but forgets the essentials feeding everyone.
