A motive as transparent as a pane of glass

To the Editor:

I participated in the virtual public hearing of the Berne Town Board on proposed Local Law Number 4 of 2020. During the public comment period, several citizens voiced their opposition to increasing the size of the planning board from five to seven members.

I was one of those in opposition to this obvious work-around of the New York State Supreme Court decision against the town of Berne in its demotion of Ms. Emily Vincent to alternate member.

Although there was no presentation made, or rationale given, on the reason for this law, it has been clear to all involved the reason for it, a motive as transparent as a pane of glass: To again appoint Mr. [Thomas] Spargo to chairmanship of the planning board — a person who has disqualified himself by his actions and will bring discredit to our township.

The four board members pushing this, and Republican Town Committee Chair Randy Bashwinger, should be ashamed of themselves!

Thank you for the opportunity to speak my mind.
