Art on the Rail Trail seeks second mural
Last year, Andrea Hersh painted a colorful, fanciful mural on a once-blank wall along the Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail.
Now the committee that sponsored that first mural, Art on the Rail Trail, known as ART, is looking for a second. The new mural site will be on the piers of the Cherry Avenue Bridge on the Rail Trail.
A call for artists has been posted with the Arts Center of the Capital Region. On Tuesday, May 22, from 6 to 7 p.m., an open house will be held at the Cherry Avenue bridge on the Rail Trail for interested applicants. ART welcomes all artists to apply, but is specifically interested in those who have experience in public art, mosaics, and murals.
The group is hoping to hire an artist who lives in the Capital Region. Applications are due by Monday, June 17, and must be submitted through the Arts Center of the Capital District’s website.
Up to three finalists will be selected and there will be a public presentation with community members invited to ask the artists questions. The committee prioritizes transparency in the selection process and encourages attendance at the presentation. Mid-August is the target completion date, with a mural unveiling ceremony to follow.
The new mural site will be on the piers of the Cherry Avenue Bridge on the Rail Trail. For more information, visit www.mohawkhudson.org/ART or email ART@mohawkhudson.org.
