Feng collared under Leandra’s Law
GUILDERLAND — After a car crash on Saturday night, a father with his 7-year-old daughter in the car was arrested under Leandra’s Law, which makes it an automatic felony to drive drunk with a person younger than 16 in the vehicle.
Chao Feng, 35, of 1533 Central Ave., apartment 206, Colonie, was arrested at the site of a two-car crash on East Old State Road that resulted in personal injury, according to a release from Guilderland Police.
Chao Feng was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated; endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; as well as with driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater, reckless driving, imprudent speed, and failing to stay in lane, according to the release.
He was released on his own recognizance and is due to be arraigned in Guilderland’s town court on Thursday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m.
Leandra’s Law, which took effect in 2009, is named after Leandra Rosada, who was 11 when she was killed in a car that flipped on the Hudson Henry Parkway in New York City, driven by an allegedly drunk woman, a friend of her mother.
