BERNE

— While driving along near the home of Calvin Jansen last Friday evening, Friend Sholtes had the misfortune to have a fuse burn out, causing his lights to go out. Being unable to see, he ran off the embankment, the car rolling over a couple of times and landing in the creek with the occupants underneath. Leroy Flagler and Floyd Snyder, who were with him, were hurt quite severely, and Friend came near drowning. All are doing as well as can be expected. The car is not damaged badly, with the exception of wind shield, top and steering wheel.

— Maple syrup is selling for $2 per gallon in this locality.

VILLAGE NOTES

— Albany and Schenectady cities will go on daylight saving time Sunday. The country districts and the D. and H. train service remain on standard time, although local service between Albany and Altamont has been changed to meet the new conditions.

— This has been Clean-up Week in Altamont. Practically every householder availed himself of the offer made by the Village Board to remove all cans, rubbish, etc., that was put out on Thursday. Street Commissioner Sidney Crounse was quite a busy man that day, and removed five large truck loads in the general cleanup.

— Miss Margaret Sisson was accidentally struck by an automobile at the foot of the Helderberg hill last night, and was quite badly bruised. It is fortunate that no bones were broken. One lamp on the automobile was put out of commission.

The bonds were issued for the purpose of paying for spring, land, riparian and other rights, and the installation of an additional water supply for the village.

THOMPSON’S LAKE

Miss Pond has resigned as teacher in District 13 and left for Albany on last Monday. Another teacher is expected sometime this week to finish out the term.

NEW SCOTLAND

Gardner Wright, our local dealer for Chevrolet cars, sold several cars the past week. The Chevrolet seems to be very popular this season.

NEW SALEM

There will be no use of going to Albany any more as our genial storekeeper, Mr. Sisson, has a 10 cent counter and everything in the line of groceries and fruit to satisfy the inner man.

CALLANAN’S CORNERS

We are all glad to have our telephone again. It is almost a year since the old line was taken down.
