Salaries, budget up in Voorheesville

VOORHEESVILLE — The village board is set to adopt a $2.13 million budget at its regular meeting April 26. The proposed budget includes no hike in taxes, but does include a 2.5-percent salary increase for most employees.

The tax rate for 2016-17 is unchanged for the third year at $1.26 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

“It’s a good budget. We worked hard on it,” Deputy Clerk Treasurer Karen Finnessey told The Enterprise. “The staff and board have worked together to ensure there would be no tax rate increase and to keep the budget as efficient as possible, despite a decrease in the total taxable assessed value and increasing expense to some line items that are beyond our control.”

The budget is up 3 percent from last year’s $2,071,910. The budget includes increased health-insurance costs of more than $30,000, and $64,200 for water projects, including vendor costs to replace aging water meters, Finnessey said.
The village’s employees and its attorney will receive 2.5-percent raises under the proposed budget. Repeating previous actions, the board members agreed that they would not take salary increases. Mayor Robert Conway’s salary will remain at $14,702, and the trustees’ salaries will stay at $6,432 each.
