Disappointed in Governor Hochul

To the Editor:

I’m glad the governor is standing up to the Republicans against damaging tariffs [“From the editor: The three branches of our government are meant to provide checks and balances,” The Altamont Enterprise, March 13, 2025].

However I’m disappointed she wants to repress prison guards who went on strike to get better working conditions. Her vindictive oppression of those who didn’t go back to work is beneath a woman leader.

It is also disappointing that she thinks the way to teach children responsibility is to take away their cell phones. David Erickson made some very good points in his letter printed in the March 13 Altamont Enterprise [“I am totally against banning cell phones in schools”].

Editor’s note: On March 10, Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order barring prison staff who did not return to work following an unsanctioned strike from being hired at state agencies, and placed a 30-day hold on hiring those individuals at county jails.
