Paul D. Rothaupt
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul D. Rothaupt, known to many as ‘Skully,’” his family wrote in a tribute. “Paul will be remembered as a loving father, cherished companion, grandfather, and lifelong friend. He passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in the comfort of his home at the age of 59.
“A skilled chef and experienced painter, Paul always had a story to tell and a smile to share. He found peace and joy in nature, loving nothing more than spending time outdoors — whether camping under the stars, casting a line into the lake, or hiking the trails with his favorite people. His love for the great outdoors was matched only by his love for his family, friends, and the New York Yankees.
“Paul leaves behind his three daughters: Jacqueline, Maria, and Faith. He is also survived by his soulmate, Esmeralda, who shared in the upbringing of his daughters while providing continuous love and support. Additionally, he is remembered by Sarah Rousseau, daughter of Esmeralda, and Jessica Hauser, daughter of Barbara Hauser.
“Paul was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren: James, Addyson, and Dominic, children of his daughter Jacqueline; Elijah and Katana, children of his daughter Faith; Eno and Bernadette, children of Sarah; and Warren, Kiersten, and McKenna, children of Jessica. He is also survived by his younger sister, Martha.”
His mother, Phyllis D. Klinger, died before him, as did his father, Frederick Rothaupt, and William Hauser, son of Barbara Hauser.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main Street in Altamont.
“Following the service,” his family wrote, “close family and friends are welcome to join us at Maple on the Lake, located at 141 Warners Lake Rd, East Berne, NY 12059.
“Please join us in honoring a remarkable individual whose presence made a lasting impression on many and who will continue to live on in every campfire, fishing trip, and mountain trail. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House, an organization close to our family's heart.”
