NEW SALEM.

The village school is closed for an Easter vacation.

WESTERLO.

— The tenant house belonging to John Miller was completely destroyed by fire Thursday night. The house had been vacated by Elmer Filkins and family the same day, who moved to East Berne. Everything was moved except one load, which was also burned with the house. The fire was thought to have been caused by emptying ashes containing live coals.

— Charles Onderdonk of South Berne was obliged to leave his auto truck at C. M. Adriance’s as the road from there on was so muddy it was impassable for the heavy truck. The frozen roads next morning permitted the truck to resume its journey.

CLARKSVILLE.

Anyone wanting new hats, call on Mrs. Carrie Van Wie. She has gone into the millinery business.

FEURA BUSH.

On Saturday, April 5th, at eight o’clock, in the church hall, Miss Fillotson will give an entertainment on the “Manner and Customs of the Natives of Hawaii and Other Countries.” An admission of 25 cents will be charged for adults and 15 cents for children.

McKOWNVILLE.

Little Oscar Sager has been ill and also Donald Smith. We are happy to say that the little folks are both improving.

VILLAGE NOTES.

— J. F. Voss is making alterations to the Commercial hotel on Main street. He has had several applications for the corner as a store property and will change the building by putting in a corner double door, with cement approach and plateglass windows on either side of the new entrance.

— Winfield S. Keenholts, a former Altamont resident and a graduate of the Altamont High school, arrived here this week from New York, having returned recently from Ceylon, India, where he has the management of large interests for the Standard Oil company. He was accompanied home by his wife. The trip home has taken several weeks, as many stops have been made on the way. They spent a time in southern France and in England. Mr. Keenholts is home on furlough and will probably remain until next fall.

— Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth H. Fake of Cobleskill motored to Altamont Sunday and called on several friends. Mrs. Fake is better known as Miss Eva Kling, who taught in the Altamont public school a few years ago.

— Word has been received that, while the condition of Miss Abby Furbeck has greatly improved in some respects, it is not as favorable in others. Miss Katherine Van Vorst of Guilderland Center went down to New York on Thursday to help care for Miss Furbeck, who suffered an attack of scarlet fever in January.
