Pine Bush trails open, offices closed

Pine Bush trails remain open although the Pine Bush Preserve offices and Discovery Center are closed due to concerns about the coronavirus.

All scheduled programs, activities, and meetings have been cancelled but the preserve urges residents to use both its physical and virtual resources.

Twenty miles of trails in the 3,350-acre preserve remain open as diagrammed on the preserve’s website.

Visitors who take the 20 Mile Challenge, walking all of the trails in the preserve earn a little prize.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is a mission site for Agents of Discovery. Visitors can download the app onto their mobile devices and go for a hike at Trailhead #1 near the Discovery Center. The app will prompt them to complete challenges along the way.

The website’s resources page outlines activities for both teachers and kids.

“We would love to hear from you,” says a notice from the preserve. “Tell us about your favorite spot, stories from long ago or why the Pine Bush is special to you.”

Visitors to the website can also take a virtual field trip, watching a 13-minute movie co-produced by WMHT.
