Route 20 crash kills Guilderland man

GUILDERLAND — A two-car head-on crash on Route 20 early Tuesday morning killed a resident of Fuller Station Road, according to Guilderland Police.

The crash took place at about 6:39 a.m. near Fuller Station Road. “One car crossed into the other car’s lane and they hit head-on,” Deputy Chief Curtis Cox told The Enterprise.

The car that was struck was driven by Charles J. Renus Jr., age 88. The name of the driver of the car that went into the wrong lane is not yet being released, Cox said on Friday afternoon.

Route 20, in the more rural part of Guilderland where the crash occurred, is just two lanes.

Guilderland Emergency Medical Services treated and transported both drivers to Albany Medical Center where Renus later died from his injuries. The Guilderland Center and Fort Hunter fire departments helped at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, Cox said on Friday afternoon.
