A miracle of historic preservation

To the Editor:

The New Scotland Town Board is excited to announce that the Hilton Barn will be moved on Tuesday, March 29, across Route 85A to its future home next to the Rail Trail along Hilton Road.

In December, we were told that this could not be done in the time frame we were given. But, after three months of tremendous work, town officials and employees, with significant help from the county, have proven the experts wrong, setting in motion what will be a miracle of historical preservation.

Sixty feet wide, 120 feet long, 55 feet high, and 118 years old, this glorious piece of New Scotland history will be moved, intact, to assure her place in the future of the town

For those interested in viewing the move, check this paper and the town of New Scotland website for updates; we will post an exact time (and any schedule changes caused by weather).

Meanwhile, you may notice the adventure beginning even earlier: By the end of this week, the barn will (with help from the specialty Pennsylvania firm Wolfe House Movers) make its way from its current spot and travel a short distance down 85A where more preparations and inspections will take place before its historic move across the road.
