Biden’s steps to punish Russian ignored by Putin

To the Editor:
Most times, I just read the Enterprise opinion pages and agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Having read Ms. Jill Loew’s letter to the editor [“President Biden has taken masterful steps to punish Russia,” The Altamont Enterprise, March 3, 2022], I could not help to respond.

Maybe she just wrote too soon, before the massacre of Ukraine became so real, every day since for all to watch. Maybe she will reassess President Joe Biden’s “masterful” steps to punish Russia, as it is painfully obvious that these steps have been completely ignored by the war criminal Putin.

President Biden’s actions, since the first day of his presidency, have weakened the United States and endangered our citizens emotionally and economically. He created the oil spikes immediately — oil, the energy source he rejects, runs all nations.

Energy affects every aspect of the economy. The world is dependent on energy — to build, manufacture, and feed the citizens. Everything we produce, consume, or sell requires energy; it’s not even necessary to mention transportation and heat.

To keep the date of Loew’s letter in perspective, President Biden’s press secretary confirmed again, on March 4, 2022, that we are still buying 10 percent of our oil from Russia, financing their war crimes with hundreds of millions of United States dollars sent to Russia.

I am always suspicious when an article seemingly meant to praise President Biden starts seven of 14 paragraphs blaming President Donald Trump for all things dark and ominous. He is no longer the president.

When the author obviously refuses to use the word “president” before the name Trump I usually just stop reading, as the bias is so obvious, and in my opinion, a bit unAmerican.

President Biden’s words and sanctions have not been a deterrent of any measure. He acknowledged that the sanctions would take a few months, by which time Ukraine will not exist.

And Ms. Loew’s advice not to “underestimate Vice President Kamala Harris’s role,” is laughable. Her recent assessment of the Ukraine disaster reminds me of an eighth-grader being called to give a verbal book report and it becomes painfully obvious that she has not read the book — nor has she been to the border. Is she still searching for the “root” cause of illegal crossings into America and now the root cause of Ukrainian extermination?

President Biden, who boasted about withholding aid to, and replacing prosecutors in Ukraine when he was vice president, owns this situation; he oversaw all things Ukrainian under President Barack Obama.  Let’s stop passing the buck, especially in the form of passing it back to Putin with Russian gas and oil.
