Gala shows library community is made from strong cloth

To the Editor:

This year at the Altamont Free Library “I Love My Library” Gala, held in early February, we celebrated those who make up “The Fabric of Our Community.” The Train Station Quilters, a talented and civic-minded group of women who were our honored guests, certainly symbolize this.

In reflecting on this year’s event, I think it is clear that our library community is also made from strong and enduring “cloth.”

There is a lengthy list of individuals who planned, did the legwork for, donated to, and attended the gala. By singling people out here for thanks, I run the risk of omitting some. There are, however, a few groups I will mention who helped the evening run smoothly.

First is our dedicated, hands-on board of trustees, director Joe Burke, and library staff. Neither the gala, nor any of the other events we do would be possible without this energetic group.

We are grateful to those community volunteers who pitched in to plan, gather auction items, and help set the scene. Again this year, several library friends and trustees provide delicious appetizers and desserts.

We can always count on our village office staff, public works department, police department, Mayor James Gaughan, and the village trustees to help us in any way needed.

From the lovely meal that Elegant Touch provided and the ambiance that Bella Fleur helped us create, to libations from Remedies and help with invitations from Enterprise Printing, we know that shopping local is truly the way to go.

Not to be forgotten are the wonderful high school students who graciously greeted everyone and helped out in numerous ways all the way through to clean-up at the end of the evening.

Finally, our auction would not have been successful without the generous businesses and creative individuals who put forth so many interesting items to bid on.

For a comprehensive list of those who have supported our gala and to see pictures of this delightful event, please visit our website, www.altamontfreelibrary.org, or stop by the library.

We are already looking forward to next year’s event and hope you are too!
