Raymond S. Milham “was called home to the Lord on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2022,” his partner wrote in a tribute.

 “His beloved partner, Deborah Mae Roberts, will always hold him closely in her heart,” the tribute said. “Mae is deeply grateful for the opportunity to have shared so many years and special memories with Ray.

“Ray and Mae shared a love of the Hilltowns. They spent hours and days tending to his acreage and her greenhouse. Neither was happier than when their hands were in the dirt, together.

“Ray served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. The skills he acquired there, maintaining and repairing helicopters, later in life translated easily to farm equipment. Ray was incredibly talented with any type of handiwork. There was no chore he didn’t take on with a sense of purpose and adventure.

“In 2003, Ray retired from the Colonie Police Department after a stellar career, having become a detective sergeant. He enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities, and loved hosting a big gang of friends for a weekend of bonfires, boating, and camping on his land.

“From riding his Harley to four-wheeling to running Mae’s tractor at the greenhouse, Ray always had a smile on his face. He was, perhaps, a bit more serious while hunting or fishing, until he got to create something like a delectable venison stew for friends to enjoy. He was always happy to spend time with good friends and left many joyful, fun memories to be treasured.

“Ray will be deeply missed by Mae and her family, his family, and his wide circle of friends. On Feb. 18, Ray was laid to rest with a police escort and full military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery, befitting the kind and honorable man he was. Rest in peace, dear Ray.”
