Simon and James understand the importance of the comprehensive plan

To the Editor:

Progress and preservation can go hand in hand. As a village resident since 1979, I have been witness to the implementation of new ideas and changes within our village, from stormwater removal to our Museum in the Streets.

For our upcoming election on March 19, we have a choice when voting for our trustees. I am endorsing James Sullivan and Simon Litten.

James comes from a family whose tradition has been one of public service so he understands the value of such service, as well as the time and effort that this service involves. His experiences as a teacher and negotiator are skills that are helpful in listening to the public, evaluating information, and working toward consensus.

Simon, an environmental scientist, retired from a career with the Department of Environmental Conservation, now continues his work with water and environmental issues. And keep in mind that two creeks flow through the village, with additional wetlands and flood areas.

Both Simon and James are thoughtful individuals who see the importance of maintaining the village character but recognize that the future will bring new challenges as well as new opportunities. They understand the importance of the guiding principles laid out in the comprehensive plan, designed to balance growth and development while preserving the historical uniqueness of the village.

I am confident that their desire to serve the village and their backgrounds will be beneficial for the board and thus to the citizens of Altamont.
