Finding out after the fact should not be acceptable

To the Editor:

Everyone likes to have input on decisions that affect them personally. This alo applies to decisions that government makes on each citizen’s behalf.

I personally think that this works best at the community level or in my case the village level. At this level we all interact with one another — via — the stores, gas stations, school, post office, bank, etc. As part of this community, we expect that the village will act in our best interests and keep us above all informed.

Historically, the village has not been very effective in doing this. Recently, the cell tower installation on village property, the plans for the new Stewarts’ store, and the sidewalk and tree-removal project on Grand Street demonstrate this code of communication by the village officials.

Simon Litton and James Sullivan are running for the village board with the expressed commitment of making all decisions transparent and open to the public via an online email system that can keep us all informed of decisions both large and small.

Finding out after the fact should not be acceptable anymore. This proposed that Simon Litten and James Sullivan support opt-in or -out email system may not solve all of our communication issues but is a positive first step to a more transparent village operation.

I therefore support Simon Litton and James Sullivan as new Altamont village board members. Vote March 19, 2019 at the Village Hall on Main Street from noon to 9 p.m.
