The former Powell Store in Norton Hill, next to the Methodist church, is now a thrift shop with all proceeds going to the church.

The Elliott House Thrift Shop on Route 81 in Norton Hill will be open for the 2025 season beginning Wednesday, March 12, weather permitting.

Volunteers run this shop and all proceeds benefit the programs of the Asbury United Methodist Church.

The shop, located in the former Powell Store, next to the Methodist Church, is closed in bad weather.

The shop is open on Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Donations will be accepted on Saturdays in the room at the back of the store. The drop-off will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items should be clean and in working condition.

“We cannot accept large items, as we do not have space to accommodate them in the shop,” said store organizers in a notice. “We also don’t accept TVs, microwaves, computers, or monitors.

“We offer clothing and small decorative household items at a very reasonable price and hope that you will come and shop.”

  • “When they got here, the roof was on fire. They knocked it down fast. Nobody was home. So everybody’s safe and sound, just property damage,” Thomas Cascone, Voorheesville’s fire chief, told the media at the scene.

  • The plan will now be folded into the town’s 2018 comprehensive plan and “used as a reference tool in the development, management, and protection of New Scotland’s natural resources, and in making future land use decisions,” the resolution adopting the plan states.
