Over the weekend, I sent an email to several hundred McKownville residents clarifying the McKownville Improvement Association’s position on political endorsements. We do not endorse any candidates running for political office.

Because not all residents are on my email distribution list, I will appreciate your printing the content of the email in the next issue of The Altamont Enterprise.

Dear McKownville Neighbors:

This weekend many of us received a postcard from a candidate for the Albany County Legislature that could be interpreted to include an endorsement from the McKownville Improvement Association.

Please be assured that the association is a nonpolitical organization. Neither Don Reeb nor any other officer or member of the board of directors has made an endorsement on behalf of the McKownville Improvement Association.

While some of us choose to work in support of political candidates, we do so solely in our roles as private citizens, never as representatives of the McKownville Improvement Association.

Editor’s note: Mickey Cleary, a Democrat running to represent the 32nd District for the Albany County Legislature, which includes McKownville, sent out a flyer with a picture of himself with Don Reeb, a longtime former president of the McKownville Improvement Association and a current member of its board of directors.

Under the picture, it said, “‘I am supporting Mickey in the Democratic Primary for Albany County Legislature.’ — Don Reeb, McKownville Improvement Association."
