ALBANY MAYOR
SERIOUSLY INJURED
Mayor William S. Hackett of Albany, who met with an automobile accident on Tuesday of last week in Havana, Cuba, is in the Anglo American hospital there suffering from concussion of the head. He was reported as doing nicely, but on Monday symptoms of erysipelas developed. Later he became worse, and last reports have it that the Mayor has a fighting chance of recovery.

BOOTLEGGER FINED $10,0000

One of the largest fines ever imposed for a prohibition violation in the northern district of New York was that levied by Federal Judge Frank Cooper in district court when he fined Samuel Mittleman of Utica $10,000 on a charge of transportation and possession of liquor.

WESTERLO
Horses and sleighs are very fashionable now-a-days, because of the snowdrifts. Cars are a thing of the past.

FARMER FIGHTS SNOW
IN A NOVEL MANNER

Today we learned of a way one of our farmers, M. P. Loewe, came to town every day from the snow-bound hills north of Altamont. He was forced to the expedient by the fact that the four farms between his place and the village were unoccupied this winter and no one to break roads with him.

He went to town, bought a pair of skis and returning adjusted them to the runners of his cutter. Now he has gone over the drifts without any trouble. Yes, the horse breaks through at times but he has no pulling load to speak of, though this farmer weighs 170 and two cans of milk about 230 pounds, making over 400 pounds held up by the skis.
EAST BERNE
Talk about snow storms. A regular hurricane struck the home of George Brownell and his family last Wednesday night, in the shape of twenty-five fun loving people, young and not so young. Of course it resulted in a surprise party on the folks and it was much more enjoyed than a snow storm. Dancing, cards, and “meow kitty, meow,” carried a full evening, and as usual the storm did not subside until the wee small hours of the morning.

RESIDENT OF SELKIRK
DIES SUDDENLY
John F. Vroman, of Selkirk, died at his home Tuesday morning. He was a member of Temple Lodge of Masons of Albany and well known in the county as he was Republican leader in his town and for many years conducted a general store and was also tax collector for several years. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.

MEADOWDALE
The Meadowdale Post Office was closed on Monday, Washington’s birthday.

NORMANSVILLE
Last Wednesday, while on the Normanskill creek cutting ice, one of the teams of horses owned by Pappalau Bros broke through where the ice had washed down thin. If prompt help had not been near the team, or had been driving it might not have been saved, as the creek is very deep at this spot.
