Amy Funderburk, the daughter of Edward Ackroyd of Knox, has been named the 16th clerk for the Supreme Court of North Carolina, the state’s top court.

“She’s bright, bubbly, and seemed to be always studying,” said Ackroyd of his daughter, who had lived in Berne as a child.

Funderburk, 45, is currently deputy general counsel with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, where she has worked since 2010. She also serves as an adjunct professor of law at Campbell University.

She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at East Carolina University and worked with children with behavioral problems before earning a law degree at the University of North Carolina.
